At the recent KnowledgeFest in Las Vegas, there was a gentleman, Bobby Gately, demonstrating his amplifiers. He handed me his plastic business card and told me “If anything it will make a great bondo spreader.” Later, I saw Gately Audio’s 15,000 watt amplifier on Steve Meade’s YouTube channel.

Gately Audio’s G1-15000D amplifier has been shipping for the past 60 days. The company itself is 27 years old this year. We had to ask why a 15k amplifier?  Gately said he saw a need for large high current amplifiers.

“We wanted to get back to big power amplifiers, just like our 1700-watt, 5-channel amplifier the G5-1700D or our 500 x 8 watt RMS G8-4000 amplifier. Not many manufacturers are producing this kind of power.  I will admit our amps are not for everyone. But when someone wants tons of power, reliability and tons of installation features, we are here,” said Gately.

Gately plans this year to expand its subwoofer line that first launched in 2020.  Last year, it produced high performance subwoofers with neodymium magnets under the Relentless series in 12-, 15- and 18- inch sizes. It will soon offer a ferrite motor version for customers that want a subwoofer to handle the challenges of high output systems, but at a lower price point.

Gately said, “We are working with suppliers to offer custom voice coil solutions for customers that want to maximize their amplifiers. By customizing the load on the amplifier, customers will be able to get the most out of their systems even with only 1 or 2 subwoofers.”

During a phone interview, Gately noted, “In 1998, I started making acrylic enclosures and selling them on various industry forums. Now we manufacture birch enclosures, offer our own line of amplifiers, component speakers and we even hand build subwoofers.  All this growth from 1998 to the present could not have happened without the support of [my wife] Alison.”

Gately Audio will team up with Sky High Car Audio, Not Standard Audio, Ruthless Audio and Warpath Energy to hold a first time Car Audio Event, The Gately Audio Show/competition, for both SQ and SPL systems.  It will be part of the Sacramento Autorama, May 2-4.

Last year’s Autorama event attracted over 20,000 spectators. “This will be an amazing event to showcase our industry and maybe spectators will experience car audio for the first time or feel BIG bass again,” Gately said.
