This winter will be characterized by a weak La Nina (when water temperatures stay below normal for an extended period near the equator in the eastern Pacific Ocean, affecting conditions in North America).
Generally, this year will see more snow than last winter in the Northeast and across part of the Midwest, especially Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, said Accuweather.
New York City, Boston, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Chicago and Buffalo are some of the cities that will experience more snow this winter. The latter two cities may see record snow levels, predicts Accuweather.
The Farmers Almanac agrees with much of Accuweather’s assessments. It predicts a wet winter with mild to moderate temperatures in much of the country but cold conditions from the Pacific NW to the Northern Plains and Great Lakes.
In particular, The Farmer’s Almanac predicts large amounts of snow from January 20-23 and 24-27 in the eastern half of the country. See the forecast for your region at The Farmer’s Almanac here.
