Calif. Passes In-Car Speed Warning

California passes speed warning law.

California recently passed a bill that says any vehicle sold that has a front-facing camera or GPS guidance system must issue a warning whenever the driver exceeds 10 miles over the speed limit.

The state bill “SB-961 Vehicles: Safety Equipment” passed both California legislative chambers this month, but it won’t take effect until 2030.

It’s not clear how much of an impact this will have in real world safety, as the driver only gets a one warning after exceeding the 10 mile marker above the speed limit. Also, that warning system can be legally disabled by the driver.

  1. One would think common sense would reveal that with all the other issues in that state their time would better be utilized elsewhere.
