By Amy Gilroy True to the rumors, the first brick and mortar retailer to carry Amazon’s Kindle eReader is Target Corp….but not at all stores just yet.
Reuters says Target will start selling the 6-inch Kindle at $259 (same as on Amazon) on April 25 at its flagship Minneapolis store plus 102 stores in south Florida. It will roll out to additional Target outlets later in the year. Target has a total of 1,740 stores in 49 states, Reuters said.
Target also stocks the Sony Pocket and Touch Readers (at least on its website).
eReaders are expected to make it into brick and mortar stores in a big way starting this May and through the Dads & Grads season. Sears, and Kmart will enter the category this May with the $149 Aluratek Libre plus Sears said it will begin stocking the Sony Pocket and Touch Readers in 200 stores in May. Kohl’s will also test market the Libre this May in about half of its stores. (See CEoutlook story here).
