Sprint announced yesterday the first U.S. 4G phone–the HTC EVO 4G–will be available starting June 4 at $199 after rebate through Sprint retailers including Best Buy, RadioShack and Walmart.
4G service provides data speeds up to ten times faster than current 3G service. The EVO is probably one of the most highly featured phones to date.
The Android phone includes a front-facing 8mp camera with autofocus and HD camcorder capability plus a front-facing 1.3mp camera. It allows simultaneous web surfing while talking on the phone (in 4G and WiFi coverage areas). It acts as a built-in mobile hotspot for up to 8 devices. It has a roomy 4.3 inch screen and the HTC “Sense” user interface that groups streams from Facebook, Twitter, etc.
The EVO’s $199.99 price tag follows a $100 mail in rebate and a two year contract. The data plan for the phone starts at $70 per month and an optional mobile hotspot is available for $30.
RadioShack said it will begin taking preorder for the device starting tomorrow, May 14 and it will sweeten the deal with a a $20 accessories gift card on $50 pre-order reservations.
