Updated! Radar detector maker Escort is launching a live “anti-traffic ticket network” that works with a new SmartCord.

Escort SmartCord LiveTogether with an app running on a smartphone, the new Escort Live service lets drivers send out alerts of a speed trap. These are uploaded to the cloud and broadcast to other Escort Live users. Escort calls it a social network for the road.

Escort Live also delivers traffic updates.

It makes use of the over one million compatible Escort and Beltronics radar detectors already on the road in the U.S.

Users, however, must purchase a new SmartCord cable to replace the current cable for their radar detectors at $79.95. The cable communicates with the users’ smartphone via Bluetooth so that alerts appear on the smartphone screen.

Escort LiveUsers view information on speed cameras, speed traps and speed limit data. They also get info on compass heading, vehicle speed and over-speed alerts.

When you enter the car and turn on the detector you can get a clear picture of the all speed trap sightings along your route.

There is a service fee but it’s waived through 2012 for owners of compatible Escort and Bel detectors. A special package is also available for new purchasers of Escort and Bel detectors with the cable for $100 off the total purchase price.

The SmartCord Live cable and app works with the iPhone and Android phones.

It automatically sends firmware and software updates to devices, said Escort.
