Volvo Can Stop Itself

Volvo will soon introduce a 2011 S60 with a $2,100 option that stops the car automatically to avoid hitting pedestrians.

Apparently over 4,000 pedestrians are killed each year in the U.S. especially in states such as New York, New Jersey and Washington, D.C.

The system will actually stop the car short of hitting an object provided the car is going 22 mph or less. It uses both radar and a camera for detection. And the system can be helpful in preventing a rear end crash, especially important today with so many driver distractions.

The new S60 will also include an Audyssey sound system.
