Apple reported more than 600,000 pre-orders for its iPhone 4 as of Tuesday, while AT&T halted pre-orders to try to fulfill those it already received on day 1 of the iPhone 4 pre-launch.
Apple said pre-orders were higher than for any other device. The deluge caused glitches in the ordering process. Apple apologized and, of course, encouraged buyers to try again or visit a store once the iPhone is in stock. True availability of the iPhone 4 is set for June 24.
Analysts said part of the reason for the high demand is that many current iPhone owners are eligible for an upgrade.
